VISUAL ARTS

The Art Studio

The spacious art room provides a blank canvas for students’ talents as they develop their skills in drawing, painting, and sculpting. Photography and Graphic Design classes are also offered in the school’s computer lab. One-of-a-kind pieces are displayed throughout the year, with a culminating showcase of talent at the Spring Fine Arts Festival.

Art Club

Art Club is designed to give students an after school opportunity to stay integrated in the culture of artists at Racine Lutheran and within the community. Students will be provided with chances to meet local artists, attend local events, partner in projects and simply spend time making art outside the classroom. For those interested in furthering their studies in art, opportunities will also be available to learn about portfolios, colleges, and careers.

Mrs. Benson is a graduate of Concordia University of Nebraska with a BFA in Art Education and a minor in Psychology. She loves the meeting point of studio art, education, and art therapy and brings those concepts into her classes. She believe all aspects of art should be taught and applied in the classroom. As a result, her courses emphasize not only technique, but also creative thinking, problem solving, art history, vocabulary and art criticism. She is passionate about challenging her students to be creative, take risks and think beyond the “box” of an assignment.
