RLHS presents “Is There a Doctor in the House?”

RLHS - Is there a doctor photoThe Racine Lutheran High School Drama Department will present Tim Kelly’s Western farce, Is There a Doctor in the House?, on Friday, March 18, and Saturday, March 19, at 7 p.m.  The school is conveniently located at 251 Luedtke Avenue, off Spring Street.

A look behind the curtain:

If Moliere could see this Western farce of his medical plays, he’d laugh himself silly! The mayor’s daughter, Lucy Canary (Hannah Mains), loves Lester Goodbe (Bradley Bosak), but her oppressive father (Brandon Dexter) insists that she marry Otis Lackginger (Ty Haarsma). Otis is a rich, old coot with one foot in the grave. Lucy refuses, but when her father insists, she fakes losing her voice so she can’t say, “I do.”

Is there a doctor in the house?!  Yes – four, in fact, and what a group of phony medics they are! Dr. Pillpurge (Nathan Busarow), the town quack, has cures for every ailment. What has Lucy gotten herself into?! Maybe her friends Blossom (McKenzie Moore) and Tom (Andrew Price) can convince Gypsy Hagg (Emma Montgomery) to pretend to be a doctor and prescribe “true love” as the only cure.  Perhaps Lester and the sheriff (Jacob Lightner) will force a lazy cowpoke, Snag (Petr Jaros), into pretending to be a specialist doctor with the real solution, making Lucy take the strangest pills imaginable, provided by Widow Stockade’s (Kim Dahl) general store. Medicine show con artist Dr. Abracadraba (Joe Herron) decides to rally the doctors to perform an operation. These doctors and their rapid-fire jokes, sight gags, slapstick comedy, and the funniest operation scene ever witnessed will leave the audience in stitches!

Other cast members include the mayor’s wife (Haley Rossmann), preacher (Nick Cruz), Mrs. Cornsilk (Andrea Mares), Mrs. Cornstarch (Tianna Chambliss), Snag’s wife (Madison Hogard), schoolteacher Mr. Strict (Ben Jung), students (Jovann Wolfe, McKenzie Daanan, Lauren Juga), Princess Falling Star (Brianna Jaramillo), and lawyer Amanda Flimflam (Maja Jovovic).

Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $4 for high school students and senior citizens (55+). Grade school and middle school students are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the door.  For advance ticket sales, please call the school at 637-6538.

Thank you, Grand Gala Supporters!

Thank you to everyone who supported the Fire & Ice Grand Gala, which benefits the students of Racine Lutheran High School.

RLHS senior Sam Theuer shared his thoughts on his time at our school. He reminds us of the importance of the RLHS community. Sam attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School before coming to RLHS. Each of our students is remarkable in his/her own right, but we thank Sam for being a Crusader and sharing his story.

To hear Sam’s testimonial and to see lots of wonderful Grand Gala candid shots, please visit the “Racine Lutheran Alumni” page on Facebook.
