RLHS presents “The Mousetrap” – October 27 and 28

The Racine Lutheran High School Theater Department will present Agatha Christie’s mystery, The Mousetrap. The Mousetrap originally opened in London in 1952 and has continued to the present day, making it the longest running play in history – 65 years! The performance dates are Friday, Oct. 27, and Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m.

The story takes place in the countryside outside of London, where Giles and Molly Ralston (Jake Tietyen and Alazea Tamez) have just opened Monkswell Manor Guest House. Unfortunately for the couple, a large snowstorm hits on their opening day.  Guests arrive before the roads become snowbound. They hear a radio broadcast about a murder in London and later learn that the murderer may be staying at Monkswell Manor. Besides Giles and Molly, other suspects include Christopher Wren (Petr Jaros), an architect who adores cooking; Mrs. Boyle (Emma Montgomery), a fussy socialite; Major Metcalf (Ben Jung), a retired soldier; Miss Casewell (Hannah Mains), a spinster with a curious background; and Mr. Paravicini (Ben Young), a strange little man who claims his car overturned in a snowdrift.  Into their midst comes a policeman, traveling on skis. Soon after his arrival, a murder is committed, and Detective Sergeant Trotter (Jake Lightner) must probe the backgrounds of all present to find the murderer before a third murder that the police expect is carried out.

Try to sort out the characters and find the murderer before the detective does.

Tickets are available at the door:  $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizen (55+) and high school students, and middle school and grade school students are admitted free.  Advance-purchase tickets can be reserved by calling the school at 637-6538. The school is located at 251 Luedtke Avenue, off Spring Street in Racine.

RLHS Homecoming 2017 info

Dear RLHS community,

This week we were informed that our Homecoming football opponent, Catholic Central, would be forfeiting the remainder of their varsity games for the season.  The RLHS football team has now qualified for the playoffs! Congratulations, Crusaders!

Despite a search of the entire Upper Midwest, we were unable to find another varsity opponent for this week.  We are disappointed for our varsity football players, and especially our seniors, that they will not be able to compete in a Homecoming football game.

We do feel it is important to have a culminating event at the end of Homecoming week and we publicly recognize our court at an athletic event.  To accomplish this, we will be playing the JV game against Catholic Central on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Horlick Field.  Please join us and support the younger players, plus enjoy the celebration and community of RLHS Homecoming 2017.  Admission to the game will be a freewill offering supporting Lutheran South Academy in Houston to help with expenses due to damage from Hurricane Harvey.

Each RLHS alumnus in attendance at the game will receive a special gift by stopping by the alumni table.   A post-game alumni reception with complimentary refreshments will be held at Bucket’s Pub, 2031 Lathrop Avenue, from 1:30 until 4 p.m.  Catch up with classmates, reminisce with old friends and share stories with new acquaintances.  Once a Crusader, always a Crusader!

Coronation begins at 7 p.m. at the school.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate the crowning of our Homecoming king and queen.  The dance immediately follows coronation, and tickets can be purchased during lunch hours this week.

Thank you for your understanding and your ongoing support of RLHS and Homecoming Week.  Go Crusaders!

Congratulations to the Homecoming Court!  Senior girls chosen for court are: Haley Pilcher, Brianna Jaramillo, Natalie Rosborough, Josie Kellner and Brittaney Bertermann. Senior boys chosen for court are: Austin Honore, Ryan Hoover, Brian Gonzalez, Kody Banse and Dakota Dexter.

Community News – RLHS is focusing on God’s love

Another exciting school year has begun at Racine Lutheran High School. On the morning of Aug. 16, we started the new year with an all-school Chapel to praise our God for the gift of a Lutheran education.

Our theme for this school year is from 1 Corinthians 13:13: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

The love our Heavenly Father gives us is different from the love the world talks about. We see this love clearly in Jesus Christ. It is a sacrificial love; a love for one’s neighbor above concern for ourselves.

When our school community embraces such a love, caring and kindness are evident in how we treat one another.

Class of 2017

Congratulations to the members of RLHS class of 2017 who were awarded more than $2.4 million in scholarships for their post-secondary journeys. We are proud of our 100 percent graduation rate, and we wish our new alumni success in the future.

Environmental Club

The Environmental Club adopted Lee Park on the west bank of the Root River adjacent to the school. The partnership serves the city of Racine and benefits the picturesque parklands that surround our campus.

The group strives to make our school’s footprint an example of environmental friendliness, share awareness about taking care of the environment and the neighborhood and promote environmental efforts at the school and beyond.

In addition to clean-up efforts at Lee Park, the students have worked with the Friends of Island Park to clear small trees near a beaver habitat in the Root River.

Homecoming 2017

RLHS boasts nearly 4,500 alumni who live near and far. On Saturday, Sept. 30, we invite them to come home and celebrate their alma mater. This year’s Homecoming festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. with the kickoff of the football game at Horlick Field. RLHS graduates will receive free admission. Wear your purple and gold, and visit the alumni tent for a special gift.

The alumni fun continues after the victory. Complimentary refreshments will be served from 1:30 until 4 p.m. at Buckets Pub, 2031 Lathrop Ave. Catch up with classmates, reminisce with old friends and share stories with new acquaintances. Once a Crusader, always a Crusader.

Our current Crusaders will participate in Homecoming week fun-filled activities, including themed dress-up days, class-versus-class competitions, coronation and a dance.

Science lab renovation

Our young scientists are busy learning in our renovated science lab. The lab provides our students with expansive, flexible space for creating innovative projects and enhanced work areas to complement the scientific, engineering and technological college- and career-readiness initiatives, plus improved safety features such as air exchange and fume hoods. Thank you for your donations.

Enrollment

RLHS offers the complete high school experience. More families are committed to providing their children with a Christian education, which resulted in RLHS experiencing a 10 percent increase in enrollment this fall. Together, we help the students become well-grounded, well-rounded young men and women.

Enrollment for the 2018-19 school year begins with our open house for prospective students on Monday, Oct. 23. Contact the admissions office at 262-637-6538 to learn more.

Thank you

The Racine community recognizes the importance of Lutheran High School, and we are grateful. Our donors, alumni, volunteers, parents, grandparents, teachers, pastors, association congregations and corporate and educational partners are vital to our ongoing success.

We are blessed to have such support. Please pray for our teachers as they share God’s love, while nurturing each student’s faith, character, learning and leadership.
